Doug Page 1925-2013
Pictured near Moro Rock, which he climbed twice last year in July, during the week of his 87th birthday.
To all our visitors and customers, we wanted to let you know that on Monday, February 25, 2013, Doug moved on to his next adventure. He died peacefully at home, as he wished.
In the words of his wife and family:
This picture really sums up Doug's zest for life. We will miss him very much but he taught us all a lot about so many things in life, and those lessons will live on.
Amongst his many accomplishments were:
- serving as mayor of Walnut Creek, CA way back when
- running for Congress
- suing Congress to stop the filibuster
- hiking to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park on countless occasions, including the last(?) time when he was 67 years old
- at the ripe age of 84, moving back to his home turf, the Central Valley of CA, to start an organic farm.
He was a great dad and step-father, a great husband and a great member of his community. He stood up for what he thought was right, regardless of how popular it was. No one could ever fill those shoes. Not only were they big physically, but they were big politically, and spiritually. He is already sorely missed.
"Peace, my dear, as your work is finally over." C. Jay Page
If you wish to send condolences to C. Jay and all the family, you can post them on the Page River Bottom Farm Facebook page.
Page River Bottom Farm raises grass fed beef and other grass fed meats. We began with Heritage Chickens and Eggs. The Angus Cattle came in July, 2010. In July 2011, we acquired Dorper breed sheep, then added Berkshire pigs in April of 2012. Eggs are available most of the year, and frozen chickens available most of the time, or fresh the first three days after harvest dates, as listed to the right.
The farm was started in order to have healthy, pastured-raised meat and eggs for ourselves and our neighbors. Since the FDA and government regulations no longer take care of us, we found a way to assure that we could meet our own nutritional needs safely on 25 acres in the Sanger River bottom area of Central Valley, 20 miles southeast of Fresno, California.
Here are a few pictures of our farm and animals:

And here are our sheep, our pigs and two of our other additions,
purchased to help mind our grass fed beef, chickens and other livestock:

We hope to share our bounty with others who want the same healthier foods for their family. Our goal is to be on the side of sustainability, good health and enough for all. Our task is to live and do, one day at a time, what we can toward that goal.
You can help us. We need your customer feedback to make sure we provide the quantity of grass fed beef and other products you want in the way you want them. Please click the link and fill out our survey, letting us know what you'd like.
We try to keep the website updated with new pictures and information regularly. I found out that you can't always see this new information right away if you don't know to "refresh" or "reload" the page on your computer when it comes up. (Computers "remember" the last page you went to and will sometimes hold that information for a few days before "finding" the new information.)
It's very simple to do: For PC users, hold down the Control key (CTRL) and press the letter "R". For Mac users, hold down the Command key and press the letter "R". Voila, the new pictures and information appear.
Please Note:
Some of our pork was incorrectly labeled as containing nitrites. None of it was cured that way, it was a labeling mistake. Sorry for the confusion.
