Introducing Our Animals
Our animals are chosen and raised with care. We want the best for us, for our neighbors and for the animals we raise. Because of the mild Mediterranean-like climate, and the nearness of the Kings River of the Central Valley area of California, we have year-round access to water and pasture for all our stock. For those who need supplements to grass, the chickens and the just-arrived-pigs, we spend a little extra to provide soy-free, organic feed.
To begin with, we chose
Heritage chickens
that are well-suited to being pasture raised and and are excellent layers. We have broilers and eggs both available locally as well as at various pick up points in the valley.
Next, we raise
Angus cattle
now that we have enough pasture. Demand will determine how much beef we raise, so be sure to let us know if you're interested in our grass fed beef.
We've recently added pastured sheep to our offerings, with the
Dorper breed.
These sheep have been bred for great tasting meat.
We've also added
Berkshire Pigs
to our grass fed meat product line. These Heritage pigs do well on grass, creating one of the juiciest choices of pastured pork available.

Our livestock guard dog is a Maremma. Maremmas have been used for centuries by Italian shepherds to guard sheep from wolves. We began with a pair, siblings Carlo and Bella. Bella has since been given to a goat farm to tend their goats. We still have Carlo, who minds our chickens, beef, pigs and sheep. His sire is from Italy. His mother is from a 600-acre bison farm and goat ranch in western Nebraska. She is not registered, but goes back to pure Maremma lines.
These dogs are only working dogs, and not bred to show. This breed is one of the few that will guard chickens, and is being used to guard threatened penguins.
Please
contact us
if you want more information on any of our current pastured animals or the possible future addition of other pastured meat animals. If interest is there, we may consider raising grass fed rabbit and/or goat meat.
